How to start a research peptide business

For laboratory research use only. Not for human or veterinary use. That is the rule for everything LotusPeptide sells, and a research-use store is defined by how it sells it. Each listing says what the product is, its pack sizes and its price, next to a clear notice that it is for laboratory research use only. Leave out any claim about what a product does and any directions for its use, in the store and in every post, email and message.

Many stores also ask visitors to confirm their age. LotusPeptide orders are for adults 21 and over. Partner stores always show an age confirmation and a research-use notice.

The rules for registering a business and collecting sales tax also vary by state; an accountant can tell you what applies to you.

Verify locally. Rules for selling research products differ by country and by state, and they change. Verify the rules that apply where you sell with a lawyer. This page is general information, not legal advice.

The models differ mainly in who buys the stock and who ships each order.

• Hold your own stock. You buy packs, store them and ship each order yourself. You control packing and timing, and you pay for stock before you sell it. LotusPeptide sells packs for this through wholesale.

Your supplier's quality becomes your reputation. Before you commit, ask for certificates of analysis and check that:

• each batch was tested by an independent lab;
• the certificate names the lab, the test date and the batch number;
• the batch number matches the vials you will sell;
• you can check the certificate with the lab that issued it.

• A hosted store on your own domain. In the partner program we build and host the store, and you connect a domain you own with two DNS records. It comes with checkout, an age confirmation and a research-use notice, and it sends shopper emails from your own domain through your own email account.
• Your own website, through the partner order API. Your server reads products and stock, sends orders your shoppers have paid for, and follows their status and tracking. See the partner API documentation.
• WooCommerce, through a WordPress plugin. The plugin uses the same API: it imports our products, keeps stock in step, sends paid orders in the background and adds tracking to the order.

If you build on a hosted e-commerce platform, check first that its rules allow research products.

Payments. On a partner store, shoppers pay you directly, with the payment methods you switch on, including automatic crypto checkout through your own payment processor account. The money goes to you, and you then pay us for the order. Payment providers set their own rules for research products and many restrict them, so read each provider's current policy before you open an account.

Shipping. Partner stores ship to addresses in the United States only. You set your shipping options and buy each label on Pirate Ship; we pack the order and ship it on that label.
